Scaling and root planing is the process of removing plaque and tartar from all tooth surfaces with a variety of methods, depending on the amount of plaque and tartar. Dental hygienists traditionally perform scaling by hand. However, new and advanced technology has led to more modern methods. In our practice, we use diode laser decontamination to perform cleanings with more efficiency and in less time. The use of lasers in scaling and root planing also can result in less bleeding, swelling, and discomfort compared to traditional deep cleaning tools and techniques.
